A crisp winters day at Oakwell Academy for this Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup Quarter final. The Reds use the opportunity to rest their defensive stalwarts from the starting lineup. Not heard of Socrates Ladies? Well they play in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Women & Girls league where they are currently bottom of Open Age 1 division having lost all their 8 league games, but did beat Wakefield FC AET 4-3 and Grimethorpe LLUK 2-1 in December Cup games.

2' Mollie Crump darts down the left wing and forces a save out of the keeper pushing it away for a Reds corner. Taken by Lindsey Tugby it caused problems for the keeper. Jade Butcher puts the pressure on but it was the keeper who put the ball in her own net. 1-0
10' Kathryn Smith darts down the left wing before cutting in on her right foot and striking the ball straight into the top corner, Kath is sponsored by 2-0
16' The Reds have had the better of the play in the opening exchanges creating a few half chances without testing the Socrates keeper.
19' Kathryn Smith skips past a challenge before playing the ball into Laura Bartup's feet. Her effort is just wide of the post.
20' Straight down at the other end Socrates try to get one back. A pinball in the Reds area before eventually they clear it.
22' Lindsey Tugby puts in a brilliant freekick from the right and it is met by Laura Bartup who beats the keeper to it and makes it three! 3-0
24' Absolute chaos in the Socrates box. Amy Woodruff smacks the ball against the post, the keeper makes a good save from a cross and Lindsey Tugby puts it just over the bar from distance.

39' Another fabulous save from the Socrates keeper. Amy Woodruff strikes a powerful shot and the keeper tips it round the post.

Credit to Socrates Ladies who, despite being a couple of leagues below the Reds, battled for the whole game. With extra mention to their keeper who genuinely kept the score down. Hope you take confidence from your performance and experience to get some league victories in the rest of the season.
