The Reds picked up a second straight away win on a rain soaked Sunday afternoon in the midlands with a 3-2 victory, with goals from Anita Gaspar, Laura Bartup and Daniella Kraycheva sealing a much deserved victory.
Barnsley started very brightly with some brilliant worked opportunities in the first ten minutes and the deadlock was broken with a one-two between Rosie Axten and Anita Gaspar opened up an opportunity which Anita slotted home in the bottom corner.
After the goal, Barnsley kept control of the game and came agonisingly close to making it 2-0 with a cleverly worked opportunity down the left between Paige Crossman and Jodie Snelson left Snelson on the edge of byline and the cross was nearly met by the sliding Gaspar.
An injury enforced substitution for the Reds resulted in Misty Russell who had impressed in the opening stages being replaced by Daniella Kraycheva.
In the 29th Minute Becks Hornsey smashed the crossbar from outside the area and it was one way traffic at this point.
Just a minute later the hosts equalised against the run of play with a well worked goal of their own and a finish on the edge of penalty area.
After the goal there was a spell where both teams trying to get the edge, with neither team able to dominate.
With five minutes of the first half the Reds then composed themselves and a series of efforts from Kraycheva and Gaspar.
Half Time 1-1.
The second half started scrappy with both sides looking to take the lead.
Manager Craige Richardson, sensing an opportunity, made a substitution in the 51st minute with Laura Bartup replacing the excellent Rosie Axten.
Six minutes later, the impressive Bartup had an opportunity on the edge of the box and on the half volley, smashed the ball into the top bin. A deserved lead for the Reds and a goal worthy of taking the lead.
Four minutes later we were 3-1 to the good with a brilliant cross from Maisie Norde headed home by Daniela Kraycheva, who had been bright since coming on in the first half.
In the 69th minute, the outstanding Gaspar was replaced by Olivia Richardson to help press and see the game off.
A series of free kicks and corners resulted in a goal by the hosts from the edge of the box completely against the run of play in the 72nd minute.
The Reds then composed themselves brilliantly and had chances blocked from Snelson and a ball played across goal from Crossman smashed over from Bartup.
The Ladies kept composed in the final minutes of the game and brilliant game management saw the Reds pick up another away win. A brilliant performance and we could and should have won more comfortably, but given the elements, the knocks and sheer effort from each and ever player, the win was very well deserved.
We take the positives as we now tackle back to back home games against Notts County on Thursday night and Lincoln City on Sunday afternoon.
